What could have made it afraid of humans? My theory is that it saw the wars Guardian deities took place in for humans and decided to stay away.

Marshadow isn't afraid of humans, it's just a ghostly creature that lives in shadows and also practices martial arts. The only thing that claimed Marshadow was fearful of people was that dumb headcanon circulating some time ago.
