What I don’t get is, why not just give us the option to customize a characters age/appearence and then give us the clothing options to be whatever class we want to be? Like is it really that hard? Hundreds of games have full customization.

Because then GameFreak would have to make a metric assload of new animations to accommodate all the varying sizes your character could have, and that means more effort into something that can't just be scrapped the next generation which GameFreak has a penchant for.

Because part of the themes of Pokemon is growth. Those NPCs have already grown into what they want to be. A ranger, a swimmer, an Ace Trainer, whatever. Either that or they have no inclination of moving forward into anything and just want to chill. Like the breeders, the tubers, whatever. You just started. You could still be anything. So you are a blank slate.

Too bad, anon, because GameFreak will never let go of the ideology that EVERY Pokemon Game could be someone's first, and with the dwindling attention spans of today's youth, especially in Japan, they're going to continue finding ways to make the games easier and drag out the tutorial process to ensure they NEVER have trouble with the game until the ass end of it.

They should just make it so that if you already caught Pokemon they will skip the tutorial.

The thing is, people don't(or hopefully don't) stop growing their twenties. That's why there's still elderly trainers, and trainers like the beauty to black belt, people change over time. You can still have a blank slate character that's not a child. Plenty of RPG's do it, and it's strange that Pokemon doesn't even with it's audience mostly being adults. Even if the trainer was ~18, they could still live at home and be young but also not be treated like a kid.

The thing is, catching tutorials are barely useful. Yeah, early on, lowering a Pokemon to red and then catching it will work, but that doesn't always work later on even if you have False Swipe.

As someone with a shitty attention span, I can never be assed to watch a tutorial or read instructions before I start using something (be it a software, an application, a tool, a game...etc)
I always need to go blind first, and only then if I stumble on something I can't manage I will look up the specific instruction for that thing
But watching a mandatory tuto before even starting is just not tolerable

Indeed. Game Freak work on backwards logic as Masuda has demonstrated.

They purport to be building games for the mobile kids, essentially, and yet... Mobile gamers aren't into paying even $10 for a game up front, let alone a full priced game and a system .

By their logic they should be going full mobile and make the games F2P because that's the ONLY way they're getting those people.

I'd rather be a blank slate trainer when starting then have ingame tasks and sidequests where if you do specific ones can change your class. Like if you catch and use grass types, plant/harvest (25?) berries, etc. you can unlock Botanist class or whatever.
If you unlock 5 or more you'll gain Ace Trainer.
You can change class through your Trainer ID.
Maybe have a function with Age Group, Kid, Teen, Adult.
I wouldn't mind a single difficulty, just please absolutely no Kukui/Lillie characters that pop up every 5 minutes shoving you in a certain direction.

Well I wasnt actually saying like you are stuck as that class, I mean body types, shape, etc. are what you pick based off in game models and then change hair eyes skin etc.

Earned titles should be a thing.

Kids are stupid but not braindead. They can think for themselves or at least ask friends/parents/Internet.
Also, you can beat the games without catching anything. Your starter gets insanely powerful in soloruns.
