Specially when they are challenging without being ridiculous like legendaries.
For example, I had a team of stantler for putting them to sleep and a weavile for false swipe and trying to reduce the hp of jynx was a pain since it had a fighting move, so you gotta improvise and bring a backup pokemon that can help out.
There are other things in new games like swarms, fishing for more rare stuff, events and else.
So it keeps things interesting.
