>>35535395Everything about him screams inability to socialize.
From how he had no friends in Kanto besides Blue, to how he went and completed his quest all alone, without meeting or making new friends. Every other protagonist, they at least meet and talk to others more. He doesn't even talk to Oak if he can avoid it. This aspect of him was made back when Masuda wasn't a big thing. When Tajiri had the reigns. And Tajiri knew what he had made, and doubled down on his loner personality in GSC. Now he hasn't even come home for a long period of time, just lives on a mountain, all alone.
There's some appeal in this. This quiet, loner type of personality. But saying this isn't "edgy" is just wrong. That's the very definition of edgy. Unfriendly and unpleasant, often appears unhappy with a frown. That's the typical "dark" behavior. Dark is the very definition of edgy. Edgy is an insult used to describe dark things. Red, by definition, is edgy, whether you want to admit it or not is your problem.
Since you seem to be struggling with this, let me lay it out for you. Liking "edgy" things isn't bad. I know, shocking news. Liking dark or Gothic things isn't wrong. It's just a fucking matter of taste. Given how popular Red is, I'd argue liking dark things is more mainstream than you might think. Just because someone called him edgy doesn't mean that's a bad thing. It's just another personality trait. You don't have to dislike it. Stop being an insecure kid, incapable of accepting your own taste.
