>>35564972>But what about new console, new story, updated region, several new forms, different battle mechanics, and the inability to directly trade with the previous game? You've just narrowed your own requirements there, not sure if that was intentional.
New console doesn't mean anything for a new gen because of course, Gen V released on the DS. I think it's pretty obvious by the fact you've said "UPDATED region" and completely omitted any mention of new Pokemon (The latter of which is widely and officially accepted as being the marker of a new generation) that you're just trying to move the goalposts on what a constitutes a new generation by defining a 'new generation' as all the leaked features of these supposed new games.
I think the most realistic outcome here is that if the leaks are true, these games will effectively be spin-offs in that they won't share any cohesion with future main-series titles. They will effectively exist outside of 'Generations'. Because if not, then by your logic we would theoretically be able to datamine these games and find all the new, unreleased Gen 8 Pokemon before they're announced because of direct trading. Unless you're suggesting that these games will be Gen 8 and then when the next mainline RPG games with new Pokemon release on the Switch, that will be Gen 9, making these games the only Gen with no new Pokemon, which is clearly not going to be the case. I stand by the 'Not part of any gen' theory.
