Platinum does everything a Pokemon game should, although playing it right after RSE makes it seem lackluster and formulaic story-wise -- the Team Galactic stuff is a slog to get through. Also its safari zone is the absolute worst, honey trees were a mistake, and GF went out of its way to make Sinnoh more linear than it was in DP
HGSS, like Platinum, is fine on paper, but subpar Pokemon distribution and lackluster gyms make it unappealing. While it fixes a lot of Gen II's flaws it still retains too many, and without Gen II's nostalgic comfy atmosphere they're even more glaring
