Gen I dungeons actually felt like an adventure and had a bit of challenge to them due to length/the amount of trainers

Also Kanto has great Pokemon distribution and a lot of mons that are a slog to play with in later gens can actually be useful

Story is fine, it manages to merge the Team Rocket plot with the protagonist's main objective of beating gyms, something which no other game does except Black and White, and even those games were so overwrought they didn't pull it off perfectly. So in this sense, the minimalism of the story ends up benefiting Gen I

Also the nonlinear aspects of Kanto make it interesting to replay, and the word is very open allowing you to build your team from a wider net at any given point than most other games allow

As for the story, it doesn't need to bother with any fancy backstory, antagonists or whatever. It's about you: it's your legend, the story of you and your Pokémon.

Only one is a hallway and it's supposed to be since it's a utility structure. Look at Mt. Moon and seriously tell me that's a hallway. Or the power plant.

Honestly if they're going to make you use Cut so damn much, they should make the move stronger. I have no problem with teaching Surf to pokemon because it's a really strong move outside of being an HM, but Cut always feels like I'm holding back a pokemon's potential

In what alternate reality do you live? That sounds a lot more interesting than what we got here. There are mountains around Mt. Moon and Rock Tunnel, literally one coastal route with a fishing shack and like three sea routes that were all the same and mostly connected, and everything else is plain grass. No other region has that lack of variety - even Johto has all of those things and more. It only gets uphill from Kanto; this is far from something Kanto did well and even further from something it has over any other region, which is what the question asked.

It has locations based on Pokemon and Pokemon based on locations. The routes are filled with new pokemon (150) without feeling like a cheap romhack or randomizer (XY, ORAS)

Now, this is strictly a non-biased reason why Kanto is a good region.

Kanto was designed as a video game setting first and foremost, and not a vehicle to shove as many cultural references in to the player's face as possible. This is evident when you compare Kanto to Alola, the former was designed with a focused on exploration and putting legitimate obstacles in the player's path like dungeons. Alola couldn't be bothered to have any dungeons, is insanely small, and routes are little more than straight lines.

Thats what gamefreak gets with basing regions of locations. Alola is Hawaii but they also could have added things that dont exist in Hawaii like ancient large stone cities made by the native hawaiins or alolans or whatever.
