But you can attribute pretty common categories to JRPG, which would apply to both Pokémon and Xenoblade, like:

I don't think that would really work though. Monolith assisting on the world would be great but Takahashi and Pokemon just wouldn't mix, I don't think.
Namco would be a fucking terrible idea and Atlus, while good developers, wouldn't be the right fit either, at least tonally. If you actually want a grimdark Pokemon (tongue-in-cheek grimdark too) you have terrible taste.

OP's point isn't that Pokemon should have the same landscapes and character design as Xenoblade, only that the graphics of the overworld could look like than instead of looking like ORAS

I disagree completely. The problem is that you constantly have to fuck around in menus changing blades for no real reason other than to get past a dumb obstacle or get more shit from a gathering spot. They should work even if the blade isn't equipped. It's just fucking annoying as is.

Yeah good point. The first XC was surprisingly decent in terms of QoL but Monolith have always been pretty bad at this stuff in general, despite how well made their games are in other aspects.

The Switch is barely stronger than the Wii U, so Monolith using the XCX engine for XC2 is no biggie. The gap between 3DS and Switch is huge on the other hand, so it's pretty pathetic that GameFreak reuses the ORAS engine for the new Switch project.

At least they added being able to sort blades by their field skills. It was kinda necessary to require equipping the blades though otherwise they would have had to increase the amount required to pass the check which would have caused a problem with people not having something such as 32 electric mastery for example.

Open world can convey different things to different people.

I assume you mean exploring areas/doing gyms in any order, but I might be wrong.

Honestly, if you look at Pokemon movies and other media that have a greater creative freedom, there would be a lot of options for Monolith to do both modern cities and fantastic landscapes. It's just GF who are lazy and chose the simplest solutions.

I'm a Xenoblade fan first and foremost. It is simply a fact that XC2's music is for the most part bland and uninspired, especially in field themes. Mor Ardain and Tantal are the only two exceptions. Giving so many tracks to ACE who always do the same fucking thing again and again was a mistake.

Two of those are forgettable (Uraya and SMF), two are straight-up copypastes of XC1 tracks. The Decision and Mor Ardaina are good, but they are a minority. Almost all field and city themes (you know, those that play while you ACTUALLY play the game) in XC2 are generic as fuck, and comparing them to the masterpieces of XC1 and XCX is downright offensive. Pokémon itself has much, much better field themes.

The gameplay is really fun but the story was total trash until around chapter 7, and it only improves because it completely piggbacks onto the first game's story at that point. Lots of dumb choices like gacha shit, sidequests being tied to gacha shit, the player map being complete garbage, and those cancerous merc missions drag down what could've been a really good game. Conflicted to see it being shilled so hard, it deserves the attention but it doesn't deserve the respect, if that makes any sense.

Yeah, no. I understand what you're getting at but gacha shit in no way accentuates what is good about the game, and the merc missions don't give the game character, they're just boring. I don't know if they were done as risks but neither end up paying off, they're both horrible design choices that negatively impact the overall experience.

Also, the resolution is garbage at some points in handheld mode.

Chances are, Game Freak is going to try for a consistent 30 FPS, 720P undocked. It'll still probably look better than the 3DS games, though.
