Soooo...assuming the leak is true, are we still in gen 7 ? is this the first gen X.5 ? is it actually Gen 8

It's the start of Gen 7, since Sun and Moon were Gen 6.5 because it was on the 3DS, just like X and Y.

No. They didn't start that rule until Gen 6, as per Serebii.

There's a lot of misconceptions surrounding how gens work, but based on GameFreak's own rules, it's Gen 7.

Unless we have dozens of new pokemon including a new set of starters (which is unlikely), it's still closer to being Gen 7 than Gen 8.

Its not a new gen because no new mons or region, and it's not gen 7 because it's not on the same console as S/M.

This is the correct answer. Technically it's Gen 7, it can't be Gen 8 without the next chunk of Pokemon being Gen 9. If these games are Gen 8, they'd have to be tradeable with the next games in the Gen, which would mean we'd be able to datamine all the new Pokemon at least a year before release. Either that or Gen 8 is the only Gen with no Pokemon.

Well leakers have said it's not a new gen but it's not a remake either, I'd say it's, it's own thing that doesn't fall into any category.

I'm calling it Gen 1X

(By new gen I mean, new pokemon, new region, new characters)

You all have it wrong.
All new region and Pokemon means new gen. Just new Pokemon means a partial gen. So USUM is Gen 7.5 or Gen 7 v2.
If LGP/E have new Pokemon then its Gen 7 v3, otherwise we're still in Gen 7 v2(7.5)

We kinda just have to base generation number off new regions in a main series game now.
It used to be off new batches of Pokemon but that would make USUM gen 8 and that's dumb.
So if this is just Kanto, I'd still say Gen 7

Okay, I got some info for everyone.
1. There are two versions. The only difference, however, is your starter.
2. An announcement was planned for this week but it was pushed to next week.
3. The announcement will really only reveal the games nothing else until E3.
4.The names sadly are real.
5.Three new legendaries.
6. New regional variants. I don't know how many just that they are new.
7. 2018 release.
8. The GO integration is just the ability to send some specific GO Pokemon over and possibly some events. Never heard anything concrete about events though.
