Who the fuck would pick pikachu? Even as a kid playing yellow I traded it to blue so I could finally evolve the little shit, even then it loses speed. Eevee can literally be almost anything you want it to be. Pic related are the best. Anyone play Pokémon Colosseum?

Hasn't Raichu always been faster than Pikachu?

That aside, I really did enjoy Colosseum. Having your starters set like that helped add some depth to your character rather than them being a blank slate 10 year old, and it's the only pokemon game I've played where you have a tagalong friend who isn't constantly getting in the way.

Nah mate, you just know GF won't allow for this.
Pikachu will evolve into Gorochu and Eevee will evolve into a Dragon and you will have no other choice.

Hm, maybe my memory is wrong but I’m pretty sure in gen 1/2 the total speed stat drops a bit when evolved. Maybe not.

Regardless it was nice to have Rui follow you around to help spot the shadows, and for GC she wasn’t bad with pathing and tight spaces etc. that being said I did prefer the solo aspect of the sequel. Just my opinion though, I’m fairly solitary in rl.

I didn't like the second as much, partly because it did feel a bit less grand and mysterious with what was going on. I might just be a sucker for that beast of a motorcycle though.

That thing was tight, and I agree about the feeling of scale. I think it may also have to do with the fact you saw all the areas in the previous game and there wasn’t too drastic of a change in the locales. Agate Village is a great example. Even though it was my favorite area due to music and atmosphere, the maps are exactly the same between the two games.

Yeah, I do think that hurt the sense of scale. I also felt like it was a bit of a step back to be a ten year old living next door to a professor with it. An improvement mechanically, but the first one has a better feel to it for me.

the downside of Eevee is that you'll be stuck with a boring ass moveset until it evolves and even then you might be stuck with a jipped moveset for awhile depending on when they will give you the stones (hopefully before the department store)

You could easily have Umbreon/Espeon by then if you wanted one. But they could also go the route of Pokémon Gale of Darkness, made it posssible to evolve your starting eevee by level 12 or so.
