I think it's just the inordinate amount of attention Generation 1 gets in comparison to the others. I mean if you think about it, you had the Gen 1 games which everyone remembers. Then Kanto made a repeat appearance in Generation 2 along with Red and Blue as trainers. Generation 3 had Fire Red and Leaf Green which I suppose you can argue Gens 2 and 3 got the same treatment. But then you remember that most of the Megas introduced in Gen 6 were Gen 1 Pokemon. And some of them got 2, Charizard and Mewtwo. Mewtwo didn't even need a Mega. And then you roll around to Generation 7 and ONLY Kanto Pokemon got Alolan forms to shake them up a little.
Now you can say that none of these are a big deal but just think about this. The Johto region got next to zero supplemental material past HGSS. If Kanto can get all of this attention heaped onto it why can't the other regions get a small bone here and there? Does Gen 4 not count anymore even though it had the second strongest influence on the series?
