Thats where you're wrong kiddo. Kanto while being the most simplistic is the most well rounded and designed region in the games. It doesn't need all the bells and whistles newer games have.

The games actually feel like an adventure and a proper right of passage for the protagonist.

You’re right OP, Kanto is trash. The routes and towns are boring and bleed together and the Pokédex is garbage. Almost half the Pokémon in the game are useless poison types. Its Pokémon are also the worst designed in the series, with some of the most redundant and forgettable middle stage evolutions and disgusting shit like Mr. Mime. There is no interesting lore outside of Cinnabar and the entire region comes across as lifeless. GSC was ironically like night and day, Johto had so much culture in every single town while Kanto is a suburban backwater with no culture at all.

Nope, it really was. Like I said in my previous post, you don’t understand because you weren’t there. Sure, you may have enjoyed whatever gen it was that introduced you to pokemon, and you’ll have nostalgia for it just like we do for gen1 but you can’t understand what it was like, 3 shops in my area opened up literally to sell Pokemon cards. You’d go there on a weekend with your game boy and some trading cards and spend all day in them. They’d all closed by the time gen 2 had been out for a few months. That first year of Pokemon has never been matched by anything else as far as hype goes and it wasn’t because of how polished or well devoleped the game was, it was because pokemon was an absolute phonemenom that has never been matched since, not even by itself.

tldr the games were only half the experience

Blue was my first game as a kid and I grew up with Pokemania. That shit was all we talked about in and out of school. That doesn’t stop Kanto from being objectively shallow and boring compared to nearly every generation after it. Half the routes are 5 seconds long with the same pokemon as other routes, all of the cities are clumped together, and most of the pokemon are just plain bad. If someone thinks Kanto's the best region, they clearly have not played the games in over a decade.
