There was also something about Pokemon revolution with either Meowth or Pikachu as an ambassador. Either around Generation 1 or 2 era.

probably just a rumor of some guy who was on the cast when it was relevant

Dragging these "characters" on for decades, with fucking Team Rocket trying to capture Pikachu every goddamn episode, creates the effect of a pointless world where nothing changes, nothing has any consequence and whose characters are depthless stereotypes that are totally incapable of feeling like believable people. Really, how many times will you get fooled by Jessie and James wearing wigs.

I have heard about this. My understanding is that this was originally the plan during the first ten or so episodes. Notice how during that time while Ash does have his moments it's clear he doesn't have what it takes. Apparently Mewtwo would have ended up creating a society for Pokemon to live in free of humans and Meowth and Pikachu would become ambassadors. Meanwhile, Ash would accept becoming a Pokemon Master is a fantasy and return home, moving on with his life. Once the series exploded in popularity this was ditched in favor of a long running format.

My ending:
Ash hears rumours of his father returning to Kanto to challenge the league, and goes on a journey through Kanto to try and find him.
Whilst he fails to find him during his adventure, he becomes finally strong enough to get to the finals and face his father there.

Pikachu turns rabbid and Ash and the gang have to put him down.
The series ends on Ashs holding Pikachus corpse in his arms. He grabs an Electrode puts it next to his head the screen fades to white and the credits roll

Satoshi goes back to Kanto and wins the Indigo League, then goes on to win the tournament including all of the other league champs with the following team: Pikachu, Charizard, Sceptile, Torterra, Infernape, & Greninja. Now that he's the greatest Pokemon master in the world, he finds and captures Ho-Oh. He marries one of his companions, it doesn't matter which one, and retires.

A 10 episodes long miniseries about a 16yo Ash, who has already become Champion elsewhere, finally defeating Team Rocket. And there’s a big tournament or something. That way, they can give him a distant finale to satisfy /padt/ and other manchildren autists, and keep milking his 10yo self until the sun becomes a red giant.
