Imagine going straight up from dumping this farfetched "that kid's urban legend" tier way of getting legendaries in the game without any explaination, to having a long tutorial for even the simplest things because "kids are dumb lol"

I figured out how to do this puzzle as a kid by looking it up on a school computer. I was probably like 8 or 9, though. Not sure how young they expect new players to be. I could see, like a 4 year old not being able to figure out how to do stuff like catch Pokemon

Maybe there is stuff like the Regi quest in the newer games, but they're so complicated and convoluted that nobody has found them.

For one thing, the Regi quest exists as is in ORAS and even adds a much more completely ridiculous method to obtain Regigigas.

For another, the series got casualized because Japanese kids said they got confused playing the Sinnoh games, nothing more, nothing less, so of course they’d try to show people what to do and where to go more

There’s a few instances.
Japanese kids just didn’t like it.

That was the only one I "figured out" when I was a kid.
I was smart enough to find the undersea cavern, use a dictionary to translate braille, and unlock the chambers using Relicanth and Wailord, but the steps to unlock each individual Regi flew right over my head.

I had a hard time believing this until I heard it from Masuda's mouth. Apparently Japanese kids have a difficult time with non-linear games. That's why they made Sun and Moon a completely linear game where cutscenes moved the story forward, Rotodex reminded you where the next destination was, and alternative paths were locked off to prevent the player from getting lost.

So Ultra-Necrozma and totem Pokemon pose no trouble to Japanese kids, but having more than one possible pathway to explore is too challenging for them. Go figure.

No, Platinum was altered to speed up the pacing of the game.

Apparently Masuda got word children were getting lost in the Sinnoh region and we're unable to complete the game. He made the games easier starting with gen 5 so that "everyone" could enjoy the games.

I think it boils down to Mt. Coroner being a big dungeon you need to traverse many times, compared to earlier ones like Dark Cave, the Seafoam Islands, etc.

On top of that, the lategame between the 5th and 8th badges is full of flying around to locations that NPCs briefly mention. I recently picked up a save file of platinum with 6 badges and had to do a fair bit of looking around to figure out just where I was in terms of plot progression.

I didn't have the internet, but I would walk to the library to get on a computer and check for cheat codes and stuff for the games I played. Plus, there were books made with cheat codes you could buy at grocery stores or video game stores.

Also, there was a translation in the RubySapphire manual that made all of the regishit doable.

I do actually think Sinnoh has rather dumb progression, and it was really annoying when a NPC would briefly mention a city's name and would never say it again. However, in getting lost and confused in Sinnoh I remember finding lots of secrets and TMs and shit, which in my opinion is good design.

I also got lost once in BW2.

They made a fucking mystery quest to find Regis the gen before ! It was in a foreign language (braille), demanded specific, rare to find pokemons, specificaly ordered in the team panel. And you needed the Dig attack only 2 pokemons learn naturally BUT they were 1 stage mon you specificaly have to train to level 45 without letting them evolve. You have only 1 TM Dig ingame so if you give it to a pokemon and delete it after, you have to raise the said 2 baby mon to complete the quest !

If kids in 2003 could deal with it. Later kids with fucking INTERNET and Youtube walkthrough everywhere can make it !

But actually that IS unfortunate to read. The fun of the games was exploring, I played Red at age 11 without a guide and had no problems whatsoever, and it was my first RPG too, so I was more used to “hold right to win” platformers.

This would be awesome. In ORAS have a full team of any Pokemon that were transferred all the way from Emerald version. If they originated in any other game it won't work. Wait 30 minutes in Lilycove City sea port, making sure to speak to the attendant every 6 minutes and after doing that enter the Konami Code. Talk to the attendant once more, exit and re enter the building immediately and speak to her again to get the ability to go to Scott's island Villa off the coat of the Battle resort. He'll ask for you to scout excellent battlers and a 9,999,999 pokedollar investment. After scouting all the frontier brains from emerald the resort converts to the battle frontier.

You still have to back track across the region to reach Canalave, Snowpoint, the Spear Pillar, and Sunnyshore. Reordering the gyms made the game more linear while also shortening the gap between receiving your second and third badge.

Having just replayed Platinum for the first time since release I can honestly say I miss the Sinnoh, but I forgot how long it took to traverse the region. I never thought I'd say it but I welcome the removal of HMs. Defog sucks.
