I recently tried watching the new Sun and Moon show because I'm at the peak of recent Pokemon kick with all the leak talk and the cool Satoshi Tajiri designs released. There's just been a lot of poke-hubbub and I've been loving it.

The Sun and Moon show sucks dick. It's awful compared to the old show and I'm a fucking sinnohfetus. All of the characters get along constantly, everything always goes right and none of the plots are interesting at all. There's no emotional arc from beginning to end, it's just a happy romp constantly, but it can't get away with just being an enjoyable happy romp because the characters beyond their visual design aren't particularly likable or interesting.

Beyond that every episode they're not actually going anywhere. In the original series it was an adventure; they were constantly going between a variety of environments every episode. Buggy Forest -> Weird Town -> Spooky Lighthouse -> Boat etc etc. I guess you could argue they visit a bigger variety of environments per episode in Sun and Moon but when the pacing is so fast the actual world doesn't feel realized. The world building has always been the most important thing about pokemon as a franchise for me and the Sun and Moon anime is just terrible at it.

I would've expected at least the humor to improve but the comedy has been gimped too. Not only are the unironic jokes worse, there isn't even anything that wasn't supposed to be funny to laugh at (Brock when he recalls a bible story makes me giggle like an idiot.)

I was really disappointed, after seeing the new animation style and loving the new games I figured the show would go in a new direction worth going in. It sucks that since the 90s the show has only been decreasing in quality.
