Ah, how funny, i hadn't even checked the picture when i read your post and the first thing that pop into my mind was MH Stories, and yeah, evolution is necessary, one of my main problems with MH stories is that i would find a monster of the same species that the one i had but it was one of those cooler sub-species, if i wanted that new one, i would need to ditch the one i had and start from 0, which was lame as fuck

Technically, no, but pokemon would have to market itself differently. Without evolution, every pokemon would have to look appropriate both coming out of an egg as a newborn and appearing fully grown. That would lad to considerably more cute-focused designs and likely a less mature demographic shift as a result.

I don't know, plenty of the non-evolving pokemon aren't cute and aren't something I would question. They might need to draw young versions for the tv show though.

In most other monster games, you replace your monsters with stronger ones as you progress with the game

"Evolution" is basically a way of fixing that; instead of replacing the monsters you've grown fond of, they evolve into stronger forms as you progress through the game
