I agree that not being enable to build your chars stats give less options to the player, making all the characters from the same class more alike among themselves. And being enable to change our skill tree any time we want sounds good when you are testing the skills, but end up being just another point where all the characters are equal, leaving only the items as an actual differential between chars from the same class.
The problem is… There nothing alike IVs in the Diablo series, period.
The initial stats from your class is equal to base stats from a determined Pokémon specie.
All the points you can spend after leveling up is equal to the EV.
The Skill tree is just alike the learning movepool.
Skill points works just like your moveset.
Items are, well, items. You get it.
If GameFreak really want to make every Pokémon unique instead of having IVs, witch only makes some pokemons better then the others, why not give more impact to EV’s, make moves more customizable, bring more items to use in battle besides what your pokemon is holding. Maybe we could add things to a pokeball that can affect the pokemon’s performance, give the player some type of charm he can hold that also affect his pokemons in some way.
That is a lot of things gamefreak could do that would make every pokemon more unique stat and performance wise that are just better and, to be fair, more fun than IVs.
sorry for my broken english, by the way
