ORAS was pretty good

ORAS was a pretty good game despite not having a Battle Frontier.

It had:
>Great soundtrack
>Improved locations (except for a few)
>Improved villains and story
>Decent post game
>An array of legendaries to catch
>Dexnav and the playnav in general
>Super Secret bases
>Contests
>New Megas
>Soaring
And most importantly it had hoenn. The region is a master piece in every game it's been in

ORAS with these features is better than

>GSC
>DP
>XY
>SMUSUM
And is equal to
>BW
>FRLG
>RS

Sucks that all the Emerald shit are not in it
But it was really cool to play through, especially if you played RSE a lot, even the tiniest change was cool as shit
Especially the fact that Mega Evolution are actually used by several trainers, and not just the bad guy and the champion like in XY.
They didn't get rid of the Regi riddles, and add more to find Regigigas, which was a nice touch
Not to mention soaring, Deoxys fighting, extra scenes like May's battle post league, and Timmy, soaring, being able to fly everywhere, and so on
It has its flaws, some hand holding (Even though it seems really acceptable now that SM/USUM are around), and the whole hype train kinda spoiled every fucking thing, which adds to the disappointment of many. But it was a really entertaining remake !
Also Archie is hot as fuck

After Gen 7 I have com to appreciate ORAS, Yes it wasn't the remake we all wnated but it was cool and in is better than even fucking USUM.

I liked X more but ORAS definetly doesn't deserve all the shit it gets, not anymore after we have witnessed how bad things could get.

No. The songs got butchered thanks to the much lesser amount of trumpets and horns this time for no reason. Hoenn's soundtrack was unique by the fact trumpets and horns were the main and only instruments that composed most of Hoenn's songs, and theses same instruments added the charm of intensity and up-beat tension that you can hear and feel.

In ORAS, it's not the same. The songs doesn't seem to try to bring intensity, nor completely replicate 100% the percussion and the progress of the original musics, and instead, sound more calm and less-up beat, with more different new instruments that made a huge part to the soundtrack, and less of horns and trumpets. That's why ORAS's soundtrack is worse.

It’s really not other than Battle Frontier and Gym Leader rematches Emerald offers nothing over ORAS. Both of which are post game. In terms of replaying one ORAS is much better experience to go back to, and doesn’t have dumb shit like only being able to evolve a Pokémon if it’s in the regionaldex or Juan’s Kingdra.

Absolutely agreed, but I don't understand how ORAS could be worse than RS. There are only two major gameplay crimes I can think of, with the first batch of gym leaders (Roxanne to Norman) being less leveled in comparison, and the free Lati@s.

ORAS are very disappointing remakes however, but as you said, are definitely good games, right below the best even, due to all the features it offered.

I will say that its in-game artstyle is mostly horrible though. Making a 1:1 map of Hoenn's tileset into 3D was a mistake, and more of XY's map designers should have came to make Hoenn look less blocky.

In terms of gameplay, most of the locations are nearly tile-for-tile remakes instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to improve them like you're saying.
Visually, the tilesets are recycled ad infinitum (why didn't they reuse any tilesets from XY so they would be able to create more variety instead of wasting time recreating basic grassy routes?) and also just really ugly in terms of color and unjustifiable blockiness.
There were a few places that lucked out and got the best and not the worst of the Gen VI treatment (Meteor Falls, Route 113, Sootopolis, Mt. Chimney, Sea Mauville and Sky Pillar spring to mind). These were incredible and a whole game made of them would have been the best entry in the series right away. Despite this, though, the entire rest of the region looked awful, and the basic route tileset that's used almost EVERYWHERE and the basic cliff tiles that are copied even into the other tilesets didn't help it at all.
ORAS should have looked at least AS good as XY even if "better" is too much to ask, because they had all of those graphics there. We didn't need an obvious step back, and that certainly shouldn't go on a list of selling points.
Also, how is Scorched Slab an improvement? It went from a single room to a literal grid. It wasn't a good dungeon before (it wasn't supposed to be at the time, just a place to find a TM), but it certainly isn't one now, either (and now that there's a Legendary at the end, Game Freak obviously felt it had reason to be a dungeon given that they ostensibly TRIED to expand it).

On the other hand, one thing I didn't like was what the Delta Episode suggested about timelines. I fully understand placing ORAS into an AU relative to the original RSE, and it was a good introduction to what would later become Ultra Space - but of all of the things to mess up, why would you retcon X AND Y into being in another world when they make more sense in the original than paired with ORAS anyway? ORAS contradict XY at every turn; that single throwaway line made it go from "totally easy to swallow because they don't have to fit together" to "total nonsense," because suddenly XY are the only games with which we're told ORAS SHOULD be internally consistent.

Yes, this was utterly brilliant and one of the best gameplay features in the series.

Yep, I agree with this one. It was nice to be able to share them online because not a lot of people near me play Pokémon.

Yes. These were honestly really good.
As much as people say they suffered from casualization (I think due to Sheen and apparently some lack of combos or the extra points for Mega Evolving? not totally sure), I'll personally acknowledge that I did enjoy ORAS's Contests and it was good to have them back. They were done well in my eyes.
(I wish multiplayer Contests could be done over Wi-Fi, but I'm not counting that as a mark against ORAS because I enjoyed Contests so much as they were anyway.)

Yes. These were fantastic and well-designed. ORAS were on top of things in the Megas department.

You already know how I feel about this from above. It was great on its own (and heck, I think the Mirage Spots for normal Pokémon were fine - they often had random encounters, items to find and meaningful map flow/progression even if they were small, which is all you can ask for in a map), but it had no business being used for the Legendary hunt, because all that turned out to be was an excuse not to have access points to the new areas integrated into the region.
Soaring stood in the way of having something to explore FOR, because the only "hidden areas" to find in Hoenn could now ONLY be accessed by finding them on the map and flying there INSTEAD of actually exploring for them in the region itself.

It would've been great to have an expanded regional 'dex from the start, with all of the DexNav-exclusive Pokémon appearing (even still DexNav-exclusive if that's preferable, though I'd rather they were in the regular encounter tables). It also would've been fine to wait until postgame like usual. But the thing that grated on me more than anything was how heavy-handedly they were placed right at the end of the main story, and then suddenly EVERYONE in Victory Road used them. I know most people wouldn't care about this and you can mock me for it all you want, but it was so incredibly immersion-breaking that these Trainers who allegedly made it all the way through Hoenn with their cherished teams of long-raised Pokémon and who allegedly are your ultimate test on what you've learned on your journey are using Pokémon that literally did not exist in Hoenn until a matter of minutes before - even IN-WORLD, since Professor Birch so kindly takes the time to justify their appearance as being a result of the Cave of Origin stuff and therefore none of these Trainers could have gotten these Pokémon until right before you met them.

I really, really understand wanting to have a postgame superboss.
I really, really understand wanting to make Wally become strong and cool and tough and whatever.
I COMPLETELY reject the notion that the right course of action was to make the sweet kid who loves and depends on his cherished Pokémon discard all but three of them and become the poster-child for "in-game teams are useless; go raise something else if you want to be a competitive player."
It just doesn't make SENSE with him. He went from a message about how people and Pokémon are better off together to a mad pursuer of strength - something that's not unfamiliar to the series, but that's consistently regarded as a foolish mindset and often something character development corrects, not an end goal in itself or a satisfying conclusion to an arc.
Yeah, I know most people think this is a silly complaint and that I shouldn't be considering story in this. But when you're outright citing the improved story as a selling point, I think it's now on the table as something open to criticism.

Honestly... no, I really don't think ORAS were anything like what they should have been. For me, at least, it has nothing to do with whether they did or didn't have the Battle Frontier; it's that problems like these are ALL OVER them. There's too much missed potential. There are too many things that weren't thought through. There are too many things that were done only for shock value and not meaningful content. You know the saying, "you have to understand the rules to break them?" ORAS don't bother with understanding the appeal of RSE before trying to rebuild them, so in my eyes, they didn't manage to be worthy successors or worthy entries to the series.

Okay, I'm done now. Sorry about that ramble.

I mean I wouldn't really say they were amazing or anything but the Super Secret Base islands are pretty well hidden. Also they had some more to the Regi quest with Regigigas. Sure it would have been cool to discover these areas, but there is still plenty of incentive to explore the region.

Emerald has mirage tower, separate bases for the teams, MUCH better trainer teams before victory road, more double battles, the battle tents, etc, etc. all before post game. Most of those things should have been in ORAS.

Emerald doesn't have this either, that's only ever been a thing in Fire Red.
