>>35608117Later gens have more shit mons sure, but they get a lot more creative too. Half the pokemon in gen 1 were just animals and objects that they gave weird names and declared to be pokemon. It also wins the award for "laziest evolution" with dugtrio, who is literally three diglett.
I think Gen 2 hits a sweet spot between Gen 1 and later gens. Gen 2 mons are much more creative and memorable than Gen 1 mons, but at the same time they're still grounded in some form of reality, unlike later gens where they're these weird monsters that just kind of exist
