>>35611286Digimon has the same problems as Yugioh, they're just too overwhelming. Pokemon is the standard of the genre, and Yokai Watch tried to capture some of that but ended up making it too braindead.
I watched Pokemon and Yugioh as a kid and while Yugioh was entertaining to watch the rules seemed so unpredictable in contrasts to Pokemon's "just say an attack". Pokemon also had a lot of resources that help you be able to learn them all, their types, attacks etc.
As for Digimon, let's just say i don't think Pokemon would have gotten very far if all of them could talk. Legendaries and Meowth got away with it because the concept was established early enough and Meowth had a reason and cute little song, which is why you saw people cringing at Pikachu doing it.
