Once the games start selling too low on Nintendo consoles, the series will jump ship to mobile and GF will end up making just a Showdown-like battle sim game that they update constantly like the million other mobile games out there, probably F2P with microtransactions. Once this no longer makes money, they'll just end the service and let the series fade into obscurity.

Eventually Pokemon will collapse under its own accumulating complexity. People will have a harder time getting into its ever-more complicated and off-puttingly self-contradictory lore so there will be fewer new customers. The greater difficulty of producing new installments and weakened customer base will whittle away at Pokemon's profit margins, forcing Game Freak to take increasingly desperate moves to improve them.

From this point a self-destructive cycle will begin. Less popular pokemon species and features will be retired to simplify the development process. Flashy yet comically underdeveloped gimmicks will be added to drum up sales. Both of these may improve profitability in the short term but the simplifications will alienate long-time fans while the growing pile of pointless gimmicks increases the barrier to entry for new ones.

Meanwhile, technological advancement, increasing urbanization, and environmental destruction will undermine the emotional relevance of pokemon's core premise to newer generations. Traipsing through wilderness that no longer exists looking for animals whose real life equivalents are extinct or so rare that the average child has never seen or heard of them just won't be as engaging to them as it was to us. These social forces and unpredictable but inevitable cultural changes more broadly will eventually produce a generation for whom Pokemon just doesn't resonate and it will lose its prominence as a children's media franchise.

Development costs will increase with the greater demands of futuristic technology and competition will reach a fever-pitch as new intellectual properties from now-developing countries like China begin achieving success in the gaming market. Investment and budgets will decline and with them the quality of the games. A few consecutive poorly received releases is all that it will take and Pokemon will finally succumb to these market forces.

The anime will attempt to preserve the status quo of the perpetually ten-year-old Ash journeying through new regions only to lose in their Pokemon Leagues for as long as possible. But ratings will inevitably decline as children lose interest and the show will eventually have to end. Because the Pokemon is SO focused on that status quo its end likely will come as a last minute afterthought. They might even have to end mid-season and release the "real" ending as an OVA. The series finale will simply be Ash winning a regional championship, which will be retroactively synonymized with being "the world's greatest pokemon master" despite making no sense. Thus, a multi-decade cultural icon will end.

Pokemon has been too profitable over its history to be allowed to rest in peace forever, however. Some years after the demise of the games and anime an attempt will be made to reboot them to capitalize on the nostalgia of Pokemon fans that have yet to even be born. However, it will likely fail to achieve the success it experienced even during Pokemon's twilight, let alone the heady days of the original Pokemania. The reboot will putter out quickly. They'll probably try to revive it at least once more even later on, but this will prove even more pathetically futile. This represents the final death of the franchise and Pokemon will fade into obscurity as a historical curiosity of latest 20th to 21st century culture.
