Pros:
-It improved on the original level design of Kanto making it less confusing.
-No clunky music because of the best sound design until Black and White 2 (subjective, but it works for me).
-Gen 1 Pokémon finally look more like they do in the official artwork.
-You can keep track of your team happiness when you use an item they are closer or further to the screen making easier to monitor evolution and moves based around it.
-Wireless link minigames.
-The map expands to the Sevii archipelago.
-Vs. Seeker
-If you choose Charmander as your starter it can learn Metal Claw early so you can have a chance against Brock.
-Pictures before you enter important places like Silph co. or the seafoam islands.
-One of the best Pokédex classification systems in the series, registering Pokémon by habitat and "rareness" and thus expanding what we knew only by suspecting.
-An intermediate storyline between gen 1 and 2 with information from npc's that goes even a tiny bit on main characters like the Oak family, mr. Fuji or the kantonian gym leaders and elite 4 with the Fame Checker.
-Trainer tutorials are optional thanks to the help menu and teachy TV.
-Almost all the advances of the gen they were launched in and the previous to it like breeding mechanics, held items, abilities, the option to play as a female protagonist or shiny Pokémon .
Cons:
-Red redesigned jacket looks stupid and it's a shame this is the one that appears all over crossmedia.
-Could've tried to put back some ideas in the original plans of Red and Green like following Pokémon or trading items that didn't make it for X reasons.
-Most of Gen 2 front sprites look like shit and are the same shown in Ruby and Sapphire.
-No diving, one of the most characteristic trademarks of Gen 3 is not present even in the post game zones of the Sevii archipelago.
-No crossgen pre/evolutions of Gen 1 Pokémon before the national dex and a bug on the roaming legendaries.
-No animated sprites.
-No day night cycle.
