I'm aware XY is riddled with flaws, I'm aware of every single bad thing it did, I know it all, but even so I can't help but love these games so much. They're just so comfy, peaceful, relaxing, I love just strolling around. It helps that the music is so nice as well.

This, Kalos was nice and all but it definitely needed a 3rd version to give the region some more substance, I reckon if it got one it would've been one of the better games, the story wasn't that bad, it just needed more fleshed out, the rivals could've used some work too.

This is my biggest complaint. They were all shitters, except Tierno was lucky enough to get Talonflame.

I also dislike how Serena/Calem were such a wet noodle. Every time you beat them you don't really feel accomplished, more ashamed like you just beat up a little kid.

The only thing x and y have going for them is the dex.

Well then I'm sorry but I genuinely don't remember XY getting a ton of shit here on release, at least not compared to ORAS, SM or USUM. At the very worse I remember this board being disappointed by the amount of new Pokemon and some of the designs, but nothing compared to the non-stop shitting on the games this board gets now.

XY are my favorite games to replay. Pokemon bank implementation and variety of clothing made playing multiple play through enjoyable for me. Sure it was an easier game but changing to both Set mode and not using Exp. Share alleviated most of that problem. Honestly if it wasn't for the cutscenes and all the stuff with Shauna, Tierno and Trevor it would probably be my second favorite after BW2. Also like other anons have said, max comfy, I miss the PSS and comfy friend safari threads on here and other Pokemon sites

All of these really. Kalos primary issue is that it needed more substance and felt very unfinished despite all the detail in the game. I think since it was GF's first attempt at real 3D models alongside everything else, they didn't get to complete things like they had hoped, and it truly did need a Z to complete it.

Instead they tacked Zygarde onto Gen 7 with a side quest role which was highly bland. Gen 6 as well lacked in the postgame department which was sad but, I don't have expectations from GF anymore. The story and lore was really nice though and could have been great if they fleshed it out. Xerneas and Yveltal having a brawl that sucks the life out of Kalos would have been an excellent story for Z. Not to mention whatever happened with Lysandre.

And lumiose city is great but a bitch to navigate
Kind of like the high roller style in lumiose and battle chateau, a champion at least should spend big for recognition.
A lot of side games too-restaurants, battle maison, battle chateau, battle institute..
It was good.

Well they're trying to keep it alive. GF did it pretty fast, it was a trial.
To make a complete 3d model of a completely new region is a big task.
For the story is kind of a letdown too, and for real that AZ is a fucking bitch for killing everyone over a faggot flower pokemon.

It felt weird beating the elite 4 in gen 6 games and then having no real post-game after that, especially after BW2. they learned nothing from their successes in gen 5, like gen 6 was made by a completely different studio.

Mostly this. The base design for a good game is there, but I guess they put so much effort into making the game 3D for the first time that they just didn't develop it much otherwise.

What intrigues me is when I played ORAS and saw mauville is a sister cities or lumiose..I wonder if that's a hint of greater expansion

Oras is shit. It's like a remake of emerald in dppt form. The overworld is much empty, the graphic translation fails bad. The trainers are gone too.
You can get more playing old emerald than oras, it's that empty.

To me in a lot of ways X and Y were like the foundations for future "3D Games" as RB were for the games in general. It had notable flaws, technically and creatively, but for what it needed to do it did well. I loved Kalos, and the reason why and many probably felt it lacking cause in a lot of ways it was. France has a rich, often dark history. But despite that like said they didn't flesh it out- one part I noticed the lack of the catacombs which could have been tweaked to serve the plot, the more medieval places they could have used, recent history, so on. They didn't give much weight to the legendaries despite how cool and easy it would have been to flesh out their lore. A lot of us just assume the legendaries are based on Norse Mythology, and Zygarde notably is- but in terms of actual design and lore they seem more like they're Greek and Celtic- based in nature. With Zygarde something akin to Demeter's Dragon or the Python, Yveltal with Apollo's Crows or the Eagle said to torment Prometheus (a being who feeds off immense amounts of life force) or better yet Artemis' Stags and most notably the Cerynerian Hind for Xerneas.

With a Z, and hopefully what they'll do in the future given the direction Zelda did and Mario is with their worlds, is expand on France- maybe adding a Basque-inspired Southern France/Northern Spain region that can fill in the gaps. Maybe have it where the ones who fought the war centuries ago were the original inhabitants of PokeSpain and by extension PokeFrance. Maybe we can see more direct history to that in future games be it a remake, sequel or reboot to that storyline.

And that's the problem they had with SM- they tried to make it an indirect sequel to XY and failed. Then when they took those parts out to put more focus on the story, they failed again in USM. If they changed things but did it so the story beats were with different versions of the characters and slightly different places would have worked.

A Perfect Zygarde vs. super-powered Guzzlord throw down- with you having to seek out Zygarde to beat/catch Guzzlord before it devours/sucks into a black hole of Alola. Giving purpose to Zygarde being there, that empty place on Poni Island, etc. Could have had it where you had to travel to the alternate world to catch the other half of it or something.

Don't get me wrong I love Ultra Necrozma its a cool idea- but it was horribly delivered. The Ultra Recon Squad felt shoe-horned into the games, ruining the charm all those damn cutscenes in SM had. I mean what would have been a better twist is having the Ultra Recon Squad being alternate dimension/future timeline you and Lillie/Hau after living in a world without light. Going slowly mad- maybe losing your sense of self. THAT would've been dope and fit better with the narrative- maybe with them commenting on it.

Can agree with this. Really nice and beautiful cities and landscapes, but no meat. Seriously GameFreak, just add Black Tower / White Treehollow and a Pkmn World Tournament to every new game, and I'm happy. Any sort of non-frontier/battletower PVE challenge.

They were okay, but a majority of them either didn't contribute in the main game or were meaningless.

What I loved:

This is my rankings of the 3DS games:

ORAS > XY >>> USUM > SM

I actually thought ORAS was close to as perfect as possible. It was a very faithful recreation of an already really strong title.
