Virtually every single map states this. Seriously, do a quick Google search for "American map". Most results will be of The United States of America and the ones that feature Canada and Mexico are specifically and exclusively labeled as "North America". And even if you manage to find a map that hints to all three countries being called simply, "America", you will have to sift through hundreds of the aforementioned ones.
Yet you will ignore this information, and you will continue to be outraged and baffled at how so many people are terrible at geography.
