This is seen in a lot of long running random shows, where at one point, the parents were shown to be teenagers in like the 60s or something, but later on, it could be the 80s if they manage to last that long. The anime would have to have this quality because the age has remained constant. The date is technically incorrect because the pokemon world was never our own and we don't know how their year works. True, that could mean their year is much longer than our own, but we would have conflicting evidence for that. It would be inconclusive at best. But let's not pretend that is the case, because I'm sure they didn't. They just didn't want to bother changing the age, and that always implies a floating timeline.
