There's really no reason they couldn't have substituted the slots with some sort of mini game. They already did it once with Voltorb Flip.

I bet part of the reason Game Freak is not doing a direct remake of Yellow is that it would be difficult to get rid of Celadon's Game Corner, too, since it's tied to the progression of the main scenario.

Wouldn't a 12+ rating be enough? I don't know about the USK, but that's what at least PEGI would rate a game with simulated gambling.
