>>35638271First of all which game do you want to talk about? HGSS or GSC? OP complains about what you’re complaining about for HGSS, where you can either just buy the stones, get them from phone calls, or win them at the bug contest, all before you get eevee or even growlithe.
Second of all, while what you’re saying about GSC being more annoying han RBY to get stones on might be true, it does not make for a sound argument at all for what you’re trying to argue: “gating the player”. Giving the player the means to get the item is not gating them from it in a very literal sense. Furthermore, you can easily manipulate getting the stone you want by keeping a small amount of phone numbers in your pokegear (or just the dude you’re farming stones from) and changing daylight savings time constantly. It is very easy to get all 4 from phone calls before gym 7 by just playing casually, alan is also the second of the elemental stone phone calls that you encounter, right after the THIRD gym, water and thunder are in the routes right next to ecruteak so this isn’t gating you from eevee either.
Third of all, level scaling through johto stays low all throughout and Growlithe doesn’t even learn a good fire move till level 34, so its pretty unwise to evolve him as soon as you catch him, you have plenty of time to get the stone.
I compared your complaints about fire pokemon to gen 5, because your best option for a flier is fucking Pidove until Rufflet in the butt-end of the game, not to mention I liked rufflet and wanted to use him so I did what any normal person would and got my friend to trade me an egg.
Btw, in regards to the pokemon distribution, Crystal ACTUALLY does a little to give you more options early on, pic related. I still think complaining about distribution in any fucking pokemon game is retarded, but for some goddamn reason people put it hardest on HGSS, despite kanto and bw1 unova having actual much worse distribution.
