Brand recognition is a big deal in the west. That shitty logo has been burned into millions of children's retinas since the late 90's and it would be suicide to drop it now.

The Japanese game logos definitely look better, but I still love the American logo. It's so "ugly 90's shit" that it's great. Plus the most commonly-used Japanese logo is actually the equally-ugly-90's-shit green one, as seen in the animu.
