>>35657094I would agree with this. Back in the Gen 3 days that was my idea for replacing IVs and possibly (of late) nature boosts. It's an RPG and they show Pokémon in outfits past and present, so it just makes sense.
Have battles drop bits like Mareep = Wool and Magnemite = iron filings and then have boutiques where you make clothes/armor and modifiers/upgrades for them.
That way casuals can just play dress up and competitive players can use the modifiers. Still requires a bit of grinding then, but almost no RNG (outside the encounters themselves). While you'll never get rid of cheaters entirely, I'd bet most people would find this far more enjoyable than hatching eggs forever.
You could still hatch eggs to get easier Shinies and whatnot (I would because I personally do enjoy it) but you wouldn't have to since Hyper Training is (and should remain) a thing.
But yeah, this is the only major change I would bother making to the formula if I were in charge.
