Bulbasaur is a good example of the more ambiguous, straight "monster" designs of earlier generations.
I will fully admit, it is the one thing I miss from earlier designsIf we really are to pinpoint what it could possible represent, though, it would certainly most likely be one of those weird mammal-like reptiles from the days of Dimetrodon or something. Synapsids, you know? Those guys were REALLY weird.
