I haven't played Showdown for like a year, another thread in the catalog just reminded me of these. The last gen I was genuinely active in was 4, back when Shoddy battle was a thing.

I started playing for like a month during gen 6, knowing nothing about fairies, or any of the 6th gen mons. I didn't like fairies, but it was fun figuring out ways to beat them with old strategies and pokemon.

As for gen 7, these Tapu shits have broken abilities with way too many conditions. Pokemon abilities were never this complex in the past, nor should they be. It's like I have to look up each ones ability every time I see one.

Competitive Pokemon is literally just a revolving door of trends. Once somebody comes up with a solid counter to the Tapus, you're going to see more teams involving those Pokemon, and then someone will need to come up with Pokemon to counter them, and it goes on and on.

Modern pokemon has too many gimmicks and sets that you need to memorize. Some faggot hit the top of OU tier last week running a stall team with Shedinja. If you run a well known set team you wont make it past 1400 but if you use gimmicky random shit every day you'll reach the top in know time. I hate trying to climb the ladder in nu-pokemon because people use cheap gimmick shit that they're opponent isnt capable of memorizing along with the hundred other standard teams/sets.

Tapu's pushed out a lot of previously OU Pokemon into UU, and due to UU's completely retarded counsel by banning every sweeper and wallbreaker so that now stall is by far the most viable play style in UU. This also had effects on RU. Didn't really that much of an effect on NU and PU wasn't affected at all due to being home of the shitmons.

Z-Moves were a mistake and I can't believe people in 100% certainty try to tell me that have a "Counter/Check-B-Gone" button for any Pokemon in the game is a good thing all because it "takes up an item slot". I'd gladly give up my left fucking foot if I could say "fuck you" to Lando-T at any given point in the match. They basically took pre-gen 5 explosion (making up the fact that it cut defense in half with it can hit enemies super effectively and way more Pokemon can get STAB for it) and gave it zero risk.

Megas give +100 worth of base stats (none of which can be put into HP,) and maybe a new type or ability. This comes at the cost of a held item, and a slot that could have gone to an other, stronger mega. Mega evos just aren't enough to save most shitmons.
