Yeah Absol is one of (if not the only, I could be wrong) Dark-types that isn't described as tricky or physically brutal. Might be a too much of a drastic change, but they could retcon it so it's another type, but with a Dark-type version of Steelworker for its ability.

Yes, the thing is, there is a correlation but no explanation of which is the cause and which is the effect. Absol is not Psychic, why could it predict anything? It could be actually causing them and tricking people into believing it's only there to warn them. Makes more sense for a Dark type.

Then, the researches mistankenly assume people are just using Absol as a scapegoat because the other option would be to acknowledge that some Pokémon do not like people.

Pokémon have time and again been aligned with the study of real life animals. Types are just another taxonomic clade in the Pokémon world.

That's the story reason some were retconned to be Fairy-Type - they always were Fairy-Type technically, those studying them just didn't know to define it into existence.

That means Absol may not be a Dark-Type at all, but those studying them just don't know any better. However, keep in mind Dex entries are filled in by the player, not unlocked so anything written in them are hearsay, mythology, and personal experience transcribed by a pre-teen or teenager who has dropped out of school to wander the country all alone for the most part. You can't take anything in it too seriously.

Psychic: intelligent, telekinesis, seeing future, control minds, cosmic energy, futuristic science

Fairy: magical, friendly/mischief, related to nature, moonlight, mysterious, protectors, healers, folk

If you read the dex, you'll get almost exclusively psychic powers, and nothing evil.

The Luxray line's entries are mainly about it's electric powers or how it hunts. I wouldn't say that's necessarily "evil" because it(presumably) needs to hunt to survive in the wild. On the other hand I will give that Gothorita's entries contain a line about "controlling sleeping children" which could be interpreted as Dark.

Something that the "Luxray should be Dark" crowd point out is that, for the first couple generations of its existence, the Luxray line consistently learned Dark moves before Electric moves. Somewhere along the line that changed, I guess.

When I first caught Shinx (without having any spoilers whatsoever about DP) I was surprised to see it wasn't Dark, but yes, that was just because of its color scheme.

I was also surprised when it evolved into Luxray, at the time I just assumed it was a Manectric clone.

Or mons like Houndoom ,Bisharp, Mandibuzz, Mightyena who hunts helpless prey in groups and maintain a mafia-style pack. Few dark types means literal darkness, absence of light, or night. like Umbreon, which was exposed to moon waves (note: moon might also represent fairy types or rarely, Ghost types , see Moonlight, Moonblast and Lunala). Also Yveltal? and Darkrai (also note it's nightmare inducing nature).
Many dark-types are related to bad luck disaster, either intentionally causing them or related them, such as Shiftry, Murkrow, Absol and Zoroark.
Most dark-types are "cruel" or "trickery" or "disasterous" while only few dark-types actually relate to literal darkness or night. Typing in pokemon isn't always accurate, many aquatic mons don't have water typing, many flying mons don't have flying typing, etc. Gamefreak types them however they want. I disagree with mons being dark-type just because "they're black in color". There must be another reason for them to be dark-types.

Why would Luxray or Emboar be dark types? Dark implies an affinity towards dirty tricks, cruelty, or underhanded methods. Emboar is based on some journey to the west character who fights for his friends, while Luxray has no indication to being dark in any way.

That isn't how Misa got her power. She literally gave up half her remaining lifespan to get the eyes of a death god. It has nothing to do with psychic powers. If anything it is a dark power becasue it is literally from death.

That is what I am saying. She was not psychic, she was never said to be psychic, it is not even implied that she is psychic. Her power comes from death. Unless you are suggesting that they knew nothing about the source material and assumed she was psychic then it would be more logical for the line to be dark as a nod to the source material without directly tying them together. Saying she is psychic because "maybe based on Misa" makes no sense, again unless you assume the designer saw a picture of her looking at someone with something like "4 years left" above their head so the designer assumed it was a psychic ability and did no further research.

why are we talking about Death Note tho? Was it ever confirmed Gothitelles line is based off Misa?
If you look at the dex it's pretty obvious, that the line is very connected to the cosmos as a whole, making starsigns out of rocks, using the stars to tell the future etc. Even our human "Psychics" use the stars to "tell the future" I don't see anything Dark type about this.
It's also a nice contrast, to their counterpart, Reuniclus, that represents the microcosm with it being based off of a cell and everything.

It seems to me, that it only sees the lifespan through predictions. It couldn't really "learn" it's trainers lifespan otherwise.
