Does anyone else feel like the charm of older generations also came from playing them on the older handhelds?

Like, playing RSS is a totally different experience if you play them on the Gameboy Advance instead of on your phone, on your 3DS or emulating.

Or maybe it's just nostalgia, who knows.
I miss those times so much.

Pretty sure it's just nostalgia, like the other anon said. I played RBY as a kid and have the same feelings towards it. I only just played silver for the first time and the feeling wasn't the same because I didn't have childhood memories attached to it.

It's nostalgia, but I agree with ya, OP. Although, it fucking sucks to play on the original GBA because of the whole no good back-light thing. Still, the original GBA's got a cool early 2000s charm about it that I love.

Nah. I grew up playing hundreds of hours of red and blue on the gameboy and the gameboy was a piece of shit. Maybe if I grew up with an SP, but otherwise the OG gameboy advance and everything before that can rot in hell

Just get a dslite anon. The ds lite has a really good display and lets gba games look very good, while the fucking 3ds and its washed out colours are hurting my eyes

I only use carts and their original hardware to play the older games. I feel it's part of the experience, plus I can do bonus shit like the Stadium games and trade and transfer up. In fact, I'm playing either Emerald this afternoon to make a team for the Battle Frontier and Colosseum.

Plus you can do the GBA pack bonus Pokemon for Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. Man, that was such a cool idea that they could've done with the virtual console games and the 3ds.
