RSE/ORAS: May (She's often shown having a Torchic and Brendan with Mudkip, only way to make both have those starters is if May as the main character chooses Torchic)
DPPt: Dawn (Johanna, Dawn's mother, used to be the best Contest Participant on Sinnoh (I think she also participates on higher ranks). Also why would a boy participate in something very girly looking?)
BW: Hilbert (Unova's hero who defeated Team Plasma)
B2W2: Nate (A girl can't defeat all those trainers in PWT)
XY: Serena (Games where Character Customization was introduced, also Serena has more clothing options than Calem)

nope in the sky pillar chapter in generation doesn't show any of the mc only Cynthia, i think mostly because Dawn allway overshadow Lucas in any media compared with others gen mc

- RBY/FRLG - Red (proved canon in GSC/HGSS)

- GSC/HGSS - Ethan (in my head Red/Ethan relationship kinda works like Tai/Davis in Digimon)

- RSE/ORAS - May (Brendan looks more like Birch than Norman)

- DPPt - Dawn (She looks a lot like Johanna, and I can completely imagine her and Barry being this duo, like partners in crime)

- BW - Hilbert (I don't know why, probably because I'm a guy and I played with him, but Hilda is equally awesome too, best poké-girl imo)

- BW2 - Nate (I really dislike Rosa's design, and people in-game are always saying how BW2's character look like BW's protagonist, so I guess it makes sense to me)

- XY - Calem (I played with Serena, and Calem doesn't make much for a "friendly neighboor" as her, so I guess Calem is better for a protagonist, specially when Shauna clearly has a crush on him)

- SM - Chicken-chan (I don't know her canon name, but she looks much more badass than Elio, as for the MC's "relationship" with Lillie, I ship her more with Hau than with the MC)

The Multiverse being canon means that EVERY Protagonist is canon except for Leaf, because as far as GameFreak's concerned, Red is the only possibility for Kanto's Protagonist.

Red, Blue, etc. is shown to be their official names. Ergo, it is accepted.
However, the Gen 7 MC doesn't have an official name. And, put simply, Elio or Ray is far better than "Sun." So, for the time being, it is merely preference.
