i have heard of the lesbian domestic violence thing. it's pretty weird desu. i kind of wonder if it's just because reporting rates are higher than for other couples but i have no idea really.
i was being pithy about adopted asian daughters but gay male couple kids seem generally well-adjusted. i think there are just fewer fucked up gay couples compared to straight couples because there's no social pressure to get married and have kids, which can result in people having a spouse/co-parent they don't actually like or respect.
I think the best direction for a pokemon post game in this vein would be something like animal crossing rather than dating. if you had like, an upgradeable house that other players can visit, as well as possibly villager trainers that can move between you and your friends' games - idk, that kind of thing. especially if nintendo would periodically add new villagers/house stuff/whatever to keep it interesting.
