Yeah I recently replayed Blue and I was surprised with how much of his LOL ASSHOLE status is way overplayed. I even remembered him being WAY more smug. But half the time he gives you tips(Go see Bill. Get data on rare Pokemon)or praises you for being strong. Even if he hates to admit it.

Its entirely because "Smell ya later" and him telling his sister to not give you a map, combined with how he acted about getting the Pokedex when it wasn't being offered to him immediately which kind of made sense as he was upset seeing his grandfather play favorites with a kid he isn't even related to and would be frustrating.
