The stupid localization doesn't change the fact that this wasn't that great of a children's movie.

As a glorified merchandising tie-in its worlds better than it theoretically should have been, but the concept and execution weren't that great at all.

special dark moves and the z-move are based on literal darkness. There are also Pokemon like Umbreon that are based around literal darkness rather than the Pokemon itself seeming to have evil traits.

Mew was originally going to have a lot more lines in the first script. It was going to say a lot of things that piss off and belittle Mewtwo and his existence, such as saying how "in the end, you're nothing more than a copy."

This was mostly all cut out because the director didn't like it, but Mewtwo's lines remained mostly unchanged from the first script, so he still talks like he's arguing with Mew.
