For example, people always say XY Ash was as bland as dirt, when DP Ash was outright worse in that regard. There was nothing about Ash that stood out, and in XY at least he was levelheaded, if not a bit excitable, like Early and Mid AG.
XY also kept everyone's rosters mostly interesting. Every Pokemon has its moment, while in DP, mons like Torterra get shafted, while some like Infernape start hogging the spotlight, even though it wasn't even Ash's starter originally.
Dawn being handed a free Togekiss, and pulling some BS Contest wins, like her Contest round vs May doesn't help either.
Loads of filler hell between the 7th and 8th gym badges, with little going on
I could keep going. It's definitely not the worst of the Anime, but number 1? No way.
