Super Mario Run was the same way, it doesn't necessarily mean microtransactions BS. Run was just a one-time $10 purchase to unlock the rest of the game, really no different to just buying a game normally.

The power ups for the pokemon also look like they'll utilize a loot box/pay-to-play kind of system. I'd also be willing to bet it has core-title integration because it is being released on consoles and mobile phones. Fucking disgusting.
