I think it means you level up your pokemon normally through trainer battles. I assume you get exp in some way for catching. Not sure how I feel about wild encounters being gone. I really don't care about wifi battles, we're getting those next year with new pokemon. I can't imagine me enjoying comp with only Kanto mons. I'm assuming these games don't use CP at all except for keeping track of how strong they will be when you transfer them to go.

CP is the abbreviation for "catch power" in Pokemon Go, it tells you how strong a pokemon is and how difficult it is to catch. Pokemon Go doesn't have catch rate like the core games, so pokemon of the same breed are individualized by their catch power. A 300cp Psyduck is easier to catch than a 900cp Psyduck.

You've never even touched Pokemon Go have you? Can't blame you, Go is awful.
No, you don't get experience points for catching. You have to release your caught pokemon in exchange for specific candies of that breed of pokemon, which are used to level it up and evolve it. The shitty part is that say if you evolve your Pidgey into Pigeotto you can't use Pidgey candies on the Pigeotto to get Pidgeot, you have to catch more Pidgeys in order to evolve more Pidgeottos THEN release those Pidgeottos for Pidgeotto candies to evolve your Pidgeotto into Pidgeot.
It's just fucking bad.

CP "Combat Power" is a power rating in GO given to pokemon based on their HP, Attack, Defense, and Speed. Although in go Speed just gets poured into Attack and Defense. So in theory you can calculate a turn-based game Pokemon's CP.

Idk what the big problem is, so long as real stats are still a thing.

The game clearly uses actual Pokemon combat mechanics, and wild battles were pointless unless you had no other source of exp.

Lemme explain something to you, if you were aboout to win the game, and didnt have one or two pokemon ready for the league, you could always trust that the wild mons on the victory road would give you the push you needed, that was a good mechanic, getting called every 15 mins by some idiot in GSC wasnt

even in the anime, each to catch each pokémon was a thrill. You had to think of a strategy, hit it with some attacks, stun and buff them and then eventually catch them. I remember the episode where Ash got his Bulbasaur... Epic one.

I have no idea why GF did think that getting rid of actual gameplay would be a good idea.
