Could someone please tell me the appeal of playing through the same region again?

The appeal of playing through Kanto in the Johto games is that you get to see how the region changed over time. There are new gym leaders, Cinnabar got destroyed, the power plant is in use etc. But instead of doing a sequel, GF decided to just remake Yellow by making the exact same game with glorified X/Y visuals and GO intergration. It's a shame because I would have enjoyed a sequel set decades after Red/Blue.

That it was some sort of 10 years in the future setting
You could see the location change and improve, the characters grow and change
New species migrate, older ones leave and so on.
But if it's a rehash/reimagining then it will suck, fuck that
