Is anyone else just relieved that Gamefreak didn't reveal another half-gen with a bare-bones straightforward region and only about 50 new Pokemon? Granted, I'm tired of Kanto and that could still be what we get in 2019.

This is just a spinoff, and I think whether it's redeemable or not depends on how close it remains to the original games. If there is any postgame content (such as rematches, a battle facility, anything) it won't be amazing, but it'll be an average spin-off. On the other hand, if it sticks too close to the original games, and offers nothing beyond Mewtwo/E4, nothing Yellow didn't offer, it'll be bad.

That being said, between the Bug Catcher Cale thing, the lack of wild battles, and what looks like a return to grid based movements, I expect the latter.
