They're actually sequels not third versions. USUM are a better example of third versions "split into two" as they were only "slightly" different from the originals.

Gen 4/5 are the best Pokémon games period, and I disliked a lot of the literal trash designs in 5, but the gameplay was stellar. Movepools made relevant, re-usable TM's and an actually challenging early game.

Remember the Growth Petilil? Normal gym? 3/10 I replied in some length.
