Tldr; The Japs understand that anything with "Pocket Monsters" in the direct logo and title is part of the main canon, so for localization purposes they translate it as a main series title (which it is)

The developers themselves clearly agree with that, or they're very confused. They've referred to Let's Go as a mainline game but said that it's not the core game and that the core Switch game is coming next year.

Check the conference.

You can't argue this just means "the Pokémon franchise" because that's not how the term was ever used.
You can't argue it means "the first Nintendo Switch Pokémon game" because we already have Pokken.

"Let's Go is a core game" is literally the only possible interpretation of the brown text that appears at the top of the official website.
