So what's the goal in this game exactly. You catch pokemon, walk around, catch more pokemon, walk around some more, 'battle' some trainers, fight mewtwo and then? I mean, with no online support whatsoever, how can I play it for longer than a day without getting bored?

That's entirely different. There were wild encounters, gym badges, there was team building, plot, a pokemon league. It was a strategy game that was clearly revolutionary for it's time. Besides, I was like eight years old when I first played those games, they just felt magical since it was something entirely new. You're telling me that 12 years later they release a game with even less content than their first game ever and you're okay with it like that?

not that dude but how do we know there isn't more content than the original? just because there isn't wild battle anymore doesn't mean the game will be less.
now imagine being an 8 year old being introduced to a pokemon game and it being this one, it's going to be their first and it's going to be just as magical as it was for us! They're not going to know 20 years worth of mechanics that aren't appearing in it.
if you are only playing pokemon for the VGCmemes, then that sucks. might just want to sit it out until the 2019 release!
i'm excited to see how they change things up!

I admit I might have exaggerated a little but still, I expected way more for their first game on the switch. The only reason I'm not mad is because I know this is just a 'filler' game and not the core RPG.

I like seeing pokemon in the overworld though. Depending on how well they handle it it can be a nice change of pace
