My wife was never into pokemon but after a while she learned to accept it and even played a few of the main series games with me. To be completely honest (and I am writing this as honestly as I can to help poor anon here, not to stir the fire going on right now) but my wife learned to play pokemon with me after Go came out. She saw how popular it was and we had fun going out and meeting people and she was impressed when I could tell some normie how real pokemon worked and then she decided to give it a try.
