>>35723799Honestly, I agree. Wild battles are shit. No one has ever come out of punching a low level wild Pokemon to death and thought "that was a good battle, I'm glad I got to have that".
However, there are two problems here. First is EXP grinding. As another anon said, you don't NEED to grind for main game, but it still helps if you just caught a new Pokemon, and it is low level, need catching up to the team. But so long as they provide a good, easy enough alternative to the grinding, this wouldn't be an issue. That said, I don't have enough faith in GF to actually expect a good alternative.
The second and bigger problem is legendary and special battles. It's always been a fun part of any playthrough to catch strong, hard to catch Pokemon. You fight and weaken them, take their HP as low as possible, inflict status effects, all the while trying to stay alive and chucking Poke Balls. It's fun. Removing the battle aspect from the battles removes this, you're left with just the chucking Poke Balls part. However, this, too, can be fixed. For example, in the trailer, we saw a "battle" start with Mewtwo, so it's entirely possible that legendary and such special Pokemon are still fight-able. Additionally, it's possible to that GF might add more to even the process of catching a Pokemon. They introduced that ball fusion bullshit, it's possible there's more new, maybe even fun methods of catching a Pokemon. Again, though, I don't trust GF enough to do this.
So it comes down to this. I, too, would love to see wild battles gone. Wild Pokemon are weak and pathetic. Battling them is just boring. But if they have their uses. If GF can keep the benefits of wild battle, the EXP and the couple of fun wild battles against legendaries, while removing the annoyance, I would welcome this change. I just don't trust them enough to do this, so I can't be happy about this change.
On a side note, removing wild battles can lead to more non-linear regions and maps. I hope it does.
