If they had extended it just a bit more to include the first three eeveelutions and Raichu (and maybe Alolan Raichu), I'd love it. It would be a fun, silly thing to play around with. As it is now, I'm very disappointed. An Eevee and a Pikachu that won't evolve are worthless to me.

Considering you don't battle pokemon to catch them the "starter" pokemon aren't going to be part of your team but quest givers that point you in the direction you need to go to continue the story
