I think after Blaziken they realized that Fire/Fighting was just a good combo to take care of Fire's Rock weakness. So they just spammed it as a way to try to make all of them useful,without really caring that it made things extra dull.

I remember reading one theory that given that Emboar was supposed to be bulky and Stealth Rock was running rampant, that Fire/Fighting was the only combo that made Emboar both neutral to Rock and didn't give it a 4x weakness like Fire/Ground and Fire/Steel have.

The backlash and mockery was so great both in moonland and overseas they put the opposite type (psychic) in the next gen as some kind of apology, which is even funnier when you think their gen7 idea was TIGER MASK and they loved the idea so much they just found whatever excuse they could to have it to keep it.

Like other people said, its a great type, specially against the early rock (and normal) gyms, so they thought people wouldnt be bothered as much as they did, and to be honest, the ideas are pretty good, they just should have spread out more through the gens, maybe just give the idea to the other type, even if that kinda removes the combo and the "blazing hot-spirited" theme out of it.

If that's true, then they probably should have just nerfed stealth rock's damage. Fire/Steel would have also been fine, since even with a ground weakness Steel would have still given it a nice pool of resistances while leaving it weak to water.

Don't even try to like that cat-thing. Measures tries actively too shill his stupid cat, while at the same time completely trashing the other two Paola starters despite them being blatantly more popular and ok overall brings more money to the table. But he insisted on trying to make the thing look cool and his bias is shown in both the games and anime. I honestly hope he snapped out of it already.

Infernape, I can understand. With all three of these Fire/Fighting starters, they were trying to make a good mixed attacker. Blaziken was shit until they gave it Speed Boost, of course., but they got it so right with Infernape.

Meanwhile Emboar is just a sack of shit no one uses because it's too fucking slow to sweep and too frail to tank.
