The guy who designed their finished designs said he used cats as a template though.

All it means is that their dog forms were scrapped and they got a catfag to design the final forms.

Dialga and Palkia are a fucking mistake and the lack of effort put into them is even more apparent with all the nice stuff we see with the gen II mons

you forget that this episode of generations is based on folk lores. and nobody knows what kind of species died in the fire. so this is not canon in any way. it represents the folk lore and not facts. if by all means this might be a nod to the early stages of the games, but nothing more.

I think these are the first draft that the creator mentions weren't coming together. You can definitely see how he kept adding new stuff to the fire one until it became Entei, while the other two were reworked completely once Entei got further along.

it's what pokemon always does. they fuse puns and things with similar names into a pokemon design. take the water spirit/horse kelpie and the dog breed kelpie and fuse them. easy. thats their style written all over. no leaker would be able to fake this this easy.
